An independent study on economic, cultural and social impact of Sarajevo Film Festival, conducted by Olsberg SPI, showed that the festival generated $30,8m income for the local economy, and jobs for 1.385 workers. Total economic output from the Festivals activities in 2017 amounted to $6,1m and 99 full time employees. For each Bosnian marka (BAM) of public money put into the Festival, BAM 2.11 ($1.3) of total taxation was generated. Festival contributes to development of the film industry in the region, has a positive effect on the image of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and creates a sense of unity among the locals.

"Slovenia’s declaration of independence from the Republic of Yugoslavia in 1991 marked the start of the dismantling of the former Yugoslavia. Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) followed suit. The fighting between Slovenia and the Yugoslav People’s Army lasted only 10 days, but the brutal wars fought in Croatia and BiH (begun in 1991 and 1992 respectively) dragged on until 1995. Fighting in Kosovo lasted from 1998 to 1999.

In programming Kinoscope this year, we found ourselves unconsciously veering towards work from young new film-makers. CineLink 2014 call for entries attracted over 200 projects in development from 18 different countries in Southeastern Europe. Our selection committee selected 14 projects altogether for the CineLink and the CineLink Plus lineups, criteria being respective authors potential and strength of the story on one side and potential benefit for the project from our development workshops and the coproduction market on the other.
