Special Pre-Festival Screening: The Film 'Kuduz' In Memory of Abdulah Sidran

The Sarajevo Film Festival, in collaboration with the Film Center Sarajevo and the Association of Filmmakers of BiH, will screen the film "Kuduz" on Thursday, August 15th, a day before the official opening of the Festival, as an In Memoriam to screenwriter Abdulah Sidran (1944-2024).

Born in Sarajevo in 1944, academician Abdulah Sidran left behind an invaluable body of work. He published his first literary works in the early seventies and began his screenwriting career in 1979. During the eighties, he became one of the most sought-after screenwriters in Yugoslavia, with one of his highlights being the screenplay for the film "Kuduz."

The screening of "Kuduz" will take place at the Coca-Cola Open Air Cinema at 8:30 PM. Admission is free with tickets available online or at the Main Box Office of the Sarajevo Film Festival (Bosnian Cultural Center, Branilaca Sarajeva 24).

This drama, a masterpiece of Bosnian-Herzegovinian cinematography, was directed by Ademir Kenović in 1989.

In the bleak suburbs, Badema, a pretty local temptress, meets Bećir Kuduz, who is fresh out of prison. Neither their age difference, nor the fact that Badema has a daughter whose father is unknown, stops them from getting together. Their ambitions, however, are very different—while Kuduz dreams of starting a construction company, Badema would like to work in a local bistro where things are never boring. Based on the real-life story of Junuz Kečo.

The 30th Sarajevo Film Festival will take place from 16th to 23rd of August 2024.
