Docu Rough Cut Boutique Call for Entries 2021

Organized by Sarajevo Film Festival and Balkan Documentary Center, Docu Rough Cut Boutique is a platform dedicated to documentary projects in the advanced phase of the editing process. We are looking forward to receiving your projects by February 8, 2021

One more year has passed and it was definitely a challenging one! What we are eagerly looking forward to in 2021 is the 11th edition of Docu Rough Cut Boutique, organized in a hybrid format with online activities and, if possible, also residential training.
Our team is looking forward to discover your upcoming documentaries and offer tailor-made training to five projects from the region of South-East Europe. The workshop will take place in three parts and in order to apply, you have to submit a minimum of 60 minutes material. 

The programme is organized in three working modules: Budapest (March 2021 – online or hybrid), Sofia (June 2021 – online or residential) and Sarajevo (August 2021 – residential). The workshop programme includes editing tutorials, group sessions and individual meetings with renowned documentary experts and professionals. The programme culminates at the Sarajevo Film Festival where five projects will be presented to the CineLink Industry Days decision makers (funders, sales agents, distributors, broadcasters, and festival programmers) with the aim of assisting their completion and enhancing their distribution possibilities.

Projects coming from the following countries are eligible to apply:

Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Georgia, Greece, Hungary, North Macedonia, Malta, Moldova, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia.

Docu Rough Cut Boutique awards:

CAT&Docs Award – €2,000
HBO Europe Award – €2,000
IDFA Award – the winner will be fully invited to IDFA 2021
DOK Preview Award – invitation to present a project at DOK Leipzig 2021

Previous projects that have participated at the Docu Rough Cut Boutique include among others: HER MOTHERS (Hot Docs 2020), HOLY FATHER (Sarajevo FF 2020), THE OTHER SIDE OF EVERYTHING by Mila Turajlić, (Winner of the Best Feature-Length Documentary section at IDFA), THE MAGIC LIFE OF V by Tonislav Hristov (World Cinema Documentary Competition at Sundance Film Festival), SRBENKA (Visions du Reel) SOFIA'S LAST AMBULANCE (La Semaine de la Critique Cannes), TOTO AND HIS SISTERS (Tribeca Film Festival).

Over the years, our mentors have been: Tom Ernst, Hanka Kastelicova, Noemi Schory, Catherine LeClef, Kirsten Johnson, Albert Elings, Ilian Metev, Ivo Trajkov, Dimitra Kouzi, Rebecca Camisa, Ollie Huddlestone. 

Fees:
The fee per team* amounts to €1000 and for all three modules covers:

Tuition
Accommodation and subsistence
Partial Travel bursaries
Accreditations and access to industry events

*A Team consist of director and editor. The producer could also attend if he/she covers the additional subsistence expenses. Scholarships are available based on financial merits after the selection process has been completed.

Announcements of results: early March 2021

First module: end of March 2021

Second module: end of June 2021

Third module: mid-August 2021

Selection process:

Please, submit your application by the deadline – 8th February. The Docu Rough Cut Boutique selection team will review your rough cuts and make a shortlist of the projects, which will be invited for an online interview during the first week in March. Based on the interview and materials submitted the final selection will be made. 

Official language of the workshop is English. Applicants must be fluent in English in order to participate.
