The Jury of the Special Environmental Awareness Award

In order to raise climate change awareness, the Sarajevo Film Festival is introducing a new award this year: the Special Environmental Awareness Award, in partnership with the United Nations Development Program in BiH.

The Special Environmental Awarness Award will be decided by a three-member jury, consisting of: editor, assistant director and sustainability consultant (film and TV) Dörte Schneider Garcia (Germany), film programmer, selector, researcher and screenwriter Julian Ross (Netherlands) and screenwriter Misan Sagay (United Kingdom).
 
Special Environmental Awareness Award will be presented at the official award ceremony of the 30th Sarajevo Film Festival, on August 23. The monetary amount of the award is EUR 5,000, and the sponsor of the award is the United Nations Development Program in BiH (UNDP in BiH).
 
Dörte Schneider Garcia
Editor, Assistant Director, and Green Consultant (Film and TV), Germany
 
After studying film editing in Potsdam-Babelsberg, Dörte Schneider Garcia moved to Portugal, where she started working as an assistant director. Over about twenty years, she gained experience in that role on several types of production. In 2020, she completed further training at the Stuttgart Media University to become a Green Consultant for film and television productions. Garcia is also involved with several educational projects that spread the word on sustainability within the European film industry. She is a founding member of the Portuguese green consultant association.
 
Julian Ross
Film Programmer, Researcher, and Writer, the Netherlands
 
Julian Ross co-programs Doc Fortnight 2024 at the Museum of Modern Art and the 69th Flaherty Film Seminar at the Thai Film Archives, and is a co-curator of the group exhibition Community of Images at the Philadelphia Art Alliance at the University of the Arts and a member of the selection committee of the Villa Medici Film Festival. He is an assistant professor at the Leiden University Centre for the Arts in Society, where he is Co-Founding Director of ReCNTR, a centre for interdisciplinary research.
 
Misan Sagay 
Screenwriter, United Kingdom
 
Screenwriter Misan Sagay won the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Writing in a Motion Picture for the critical and box-office hit BELLE. She was also nominated for a Humanitas Prize with the same screenplay. Sagay's producing and screenwriting credits include SECRET LAUGHTER OF WOMEN and the award-winning, critically acclaimed ABC television movie THEIR EYES WERE WATCHING GOD. Her television credits also include the series GUERILLA and RENAISSANCE.

The 30th Sarajevo Film Festival will take place from 16 to 23 August 2024.
