Amat Escalante to Open 10th Annual Edition of Talents Sarajevo
The 10th annual Talents Sarajevo will be held from 14-20 August, within the framework of the 22nd Sarajevo Film Festival. The 2016 edition of Talents Sarajevo will be opened by Mexican director, writer and producer Amat Escalante whose work will be showcased and honored in the Festival’s Tribute To program.
Talents Sarajevo participants who include 71 emerging actors, actresses, directors, DOPs, film critics, producers and scriptwriters from South East Europe and Southern Caucasus will have a chance to meet this self-taught filmmaker who established himself as one of the leading figures of the modern cinema.
Amat Escalante began his work in cinema at the age of fifteen. After making two short films, he wrote and directed "Sangre", his first feature film. "Sangre" became part of the Official Selection Un Certain Regard at the Cannes Film Festival in 2005 where it was awarded the FIPRESCI Prize chosen by International Film Critics. His second feature film, "Los Bastardos", also premiered at Cannes in 2008 in the Official Selection Un Certain Regard.
"Heli" is his third feature length film, and was part of the Cannes Film Festival's Official Competition in 2013, where he received the award for Best Director. "La Región Salvaje" (The Untamed) is his new feature film for 2016.
Founded in cooperation with the Berlin International Film Festival and Berlinale Talents program, Sarajevo Talents grew over the past decade into a regional hub for meeting and training of aspiring film professionals. In addition to bringing young filmmakers together, the platform also aims to introduce them to the work of established film professionals, inform them about the latest trends in the film industry and art, and enable their entrance into the regional and international filmmaking community.
The 2016 Talents Sarajevo will offer a rich Summit Program comprised of master classes, moderated debates and interactive panel discussions, complemented by PACK&PITCH and SCRIPT STATION project development labs, as well as studio programs and workshops for members of specific professional disciplines including ACTING STUDIO, CAMERA STUDIO, FILM STAGE STUDIO and TALENT PRESS.
