Two Silver Bears for “An Episode in the Life of an Iron Picker”
The Jury of the 63rd Berlinale International Film Festival has awarded Silver Bear to AN EPISODE IN THE LIFE OF AN IRON PICKER by Danis Tanović and Silver Bear for best actor to Nazif Mujić.
AN EPISODE IN THE LIFE OF AN IRON PICKER is based on a true story, and it tells a story about alienation and discrimination in contemporary Bosnian society.
The plot follows the life of Nazif, who supports his family by picking up scrap metal. After his wife Senada had been denied a treatment for spontaneous abortion, Nazif would do everything he could to save her life; he desperately picks up more scrap metal, and seeks help from various government and non-government institutions. In the following ten days Nazif and Senada experience the cruelty of contemporary society at its worst.
The cast are Nazif Mujić, Senada Alimanović, Sandra Mujić and Šemsa Mujić. The film producers are Amra Bakšić Čamo and Čedomir Kolar, screenwriter and director Danis Tanović, and the rest of the crew includes director of photography Erol Zubčević, editor Timur Makarević, sound engineer Samir Fočo, and executive producers Adis Đapo i Adnan Beširović.
The film AN EPISODE IN THE LIFE OF AN IRON PICKER was produced by SCCA/pro.ba in co-production with A.S.A.P. Films from Paris and Vertigo/Emotionfilm from Ljubljana. The film was financed by Sarajevo Film Fund.
The film was also awarded with the Special Mention of the Ecumenical Jury of the 63rd Berlinale International Film Festival.
