Sarajevo Film Festival, BFI and British Council bring the UK to Southeast Europe
A delegation of British film professionals will be special guests at the 20th Sarajevo Film Festival's co-production market CineLink on August 20-23, with the aim of increasing co-production with Southeast Europe.
The CineLink Partner Country Initiative has been running for more than a decade now, systematically strengthening the working relationship between the Southeast European film industry and its international counterparts.
This year's Partner Country is the UK, and around 20 British producers, sales agents, distributors, agents and festival representatives will be present at CineLink for four intensive days of meeting regional film makers and promoting the possibilities of cooperation with the UK. The UK focus is arranged in collaboration with the British Film Institute and the British Council with its Connecting Film initiave.
Several British guests will also be speaking at the Regional Forum/MEDIA conference taking place during these days, a high profile industry debate forum which addresses hot film policy issues and challenges in the industry today.
Jovan Marjanovic, Head of Industry, Sarajevo Film Festival:
"We're happy to welcome the UK delegation to our dynamic region, which offers major international talent and solid experience of co-production. Throughout the years we have seen so many successful results coming out of the Partner Country project, and we're excited to see what this year's exchange will bring.
Though our film industries are quite different, the challenges today are shared across Europe, so this will give us all a fantastic opportunity to take on current film industry topics together. We look forward to intense and productive discussions and debates."
Previous partner countries: Germany (2013), France (2012), Switzerland (2011), Israel (2010), Sweden (2009), Ireland (2008), Cine Regio (2007), The Netherlands (2006), Germany (2005), Austria (2004).
CineLink takes place during Sarajevo Film Festival on August 20-23, and is a development and financing platform for around 30 carefully selected regional feature-length fiction films open for European co-production. Its aim is to provide a platform designed to meet the current needs and expectations of Southeast Europe’s film industry in reshaping, and is attended by around 500 industry professionals from the region and the rest of Europe.
